Are You Growing Capability or Dependence?

The towering redwoods in Rotorua's Whakarewarewa Forest didn't achieve their remarkable height overnight.
We have been exploring how effective leadership begins with ourselves (ALIGN and INSPIRE), then moves to improving business PERFORMANCE (CLARIFY and DELIVER).

Now we turn to the third pathway in our Leaders Creating Impact programme: PEOPLE (GROW and CONNECT).
And perhaps one of the biggest challenges facing leaders today:
How do we develop people who can confidently make decisions, solve problems and perform without continually depending on us?
This is at the heart of GROW.
It is about coaching more and telling less, developing capable teams, and establishing clear expectations that encourage both achievement and accountability.
The towering redwoods in Rotorua's Whakarewarewa Forest didn't achieve their remarkable height overnight.
Their growth depended on the conditions around them.
The same is true of people.
As leaders, we cannot make people grow. But we can create the conditions in which they can develop, contribute and thrive.
We do that through coaching, providing opportunities to stretch and learn, setting clear expectations, and encouraging people to take greater ownership.
And nowhere is this more important than when people are navigating change.
